The Space is an initiative of The Louise Project, which operates in Govanhill to
enable families to live flourishing lives and communities to thrive. Govanhill is the
most multicultural area of Scotland, and we welcome all people to the project.
The dominant group supported by the project are the European Roma from
Romania and Slovakia.
The Space focuses on advocacy, integration, enhancing well-being, adult
education, developing good parenting skills, and understanding civic systems.
The Project Worker post is to cover a period of maternity leave and will help
deliver services to the community, with a focus on advocacy, including Settled
Status, Welfare Benefits, Education, and Health.
Role
We are seeking a person with a strong sense of social justice and a desire to help
those affected by poverty to improve their lives.
The individual will have a mature outlook and be an excellent listener. They will
be self-motivated and able to work independently.
The individual will be numerate, well organised, and able to present complex
issues clearly, both verbally and in writing. They will be able to interpret the
prevalent Slovak dialect and understand Romani culture.
The individual requires knowledge of the EU Settlement Scheme and an
understanding of the welfare benefits system, including experience with
Universal Credit and benefit entitlement calculators. In addition, the individual
should be able to advise on domestic budgeting. A commitment to ongoing
professional development, including participation in training to enhance
knowledge and understanding of services and project values, is essential.
The individual must also be skilled in using various IT and digital tools to perform
their duties, including Microsoft Office applications.
