Diabetes Awareness & Community Information Sessions

We are proud to partner with NHS GGC to deliver diabetes information sessions designed to support our community through education, awareness, and early prevention.

Diabetes affects many people, but research shows that people of Asian background are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It is also important to acknowledge that Roma communities are of south Asian descent, and as a result, Roma people may also face an increased risk. Our session provided culturally sensitive information to help individuals and families understand diabetes and take steps toward better health.

Sexual Health & Family Planning Partnership

We work in partnership with Sandyford to provide sexual health information sessions for the Roma community. These sessions cover family planning, sexual health, how to book appointments, and understanding healthcare rights.

Our approach is culturally sensitive and aims to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and confidence to access the services they are entitled to.

Education & Literacy Support Partnerships

SSVP Tutoring Partnership

We work in partnership with SSVP to deliver literacy tutoring sessions at Annette Street Primary School, which is attended by many children from the families we support. The sessions are delivered with the support of volunteer tutors from Glasgow University SSVP 1833.

The programme uses a phonics and sounds-based learning game, designed by National Student Coordinator at SSVP to support children—particularly those with English as an additional language. Following a successful pilot at St Michael’s primary school, we introduced the programme in Govanhill, where it has since grown into a successful, ongoing annual initiative.

Glasgow College ESOL Programme

In partnership with City of Glasgow College, we deliver ESOL classes at The Space. These community-based classes offer four modules throughout the year, with learners able to gain SQA qualifications. The programme acts as a pathway to further education, with learners receiving one-to-one support from our volunteers. The classes are very popular and designed to build confidence, language skills, and progression opportunities.

Gambling Harm Awareness

We work in partnership with FastForward to address gambling-related harm through the creation of a Gambliing Harm Awareness Toolkit. The toolkit provides clear, accessible information to help community organisations and families understand gambling harm, recognise the signs, and know where and how to access support. Our approach is preventative, community-focused, and designed to promote informed choices and wellbeing.
